Research & Policy Content Strategy
Research-driven organizations face a recurring challenge: translating complex findings into content that is accessible, relevant, and actionable for different audiences. I worked across teams to bridge research, storytelling, and distribution — ensuring important ideas reach the audiences who need them.
Context
I worked closely with researchers and program staff to transform long-form policy research into digital content that could reach funders, practitioners, and public audiences across multiple formats.
My Role
- Web content structure and WordPress management
- HTML/CSS and responsive layout decisions
- Editorial framing and accessibility considerations
- Promotional video creation
- Social distribution strategy
Web & Research Presentation
Designed and managed research pages to support readability, accessibility, and clear navigation for complex policy content.
I identified and implemented a plugin to easily create a Table of Content, but I had to manually format the call-out box myself using CSS. I used Flexbox to achieve a responsive design that mirrored the layout of the original report.
For tables that did not have a graphic image that could simply be inserted into the post, I used a combination of HTML’s built-in table element and CSS.
Some tables, such as this one from “Field in Focus” could not be replicated with the built-in HTML table element, and required CSS formatting with Flexbox to achieve the desired appearance.
Video & Social Translation
Working with an author of the research report, I created Democracy Fund’s first short-form video for data visualization. This social media asset was translated the report’s key research insight into an accessible narrative, increasing reach and engagement. The report went on to become our most-viewed piece of content on the website.
Results
- Research content was structured for clarity and accessibility, improving usability for practitioner and non-technical audiences.
- Web pages served as a central, reusable source for promoting research across LinkedIn, newsletters, and campaign materials.
- Social posts translating research insights consistently performed among the strongest content by engagement.
- Reduced the burden on researchers by handling content structure, formatting, and accessibility centrally.
- Established a repeatable model for publishing and distributing research beyond the initial release window
